Trans Visibility Stories: Call for Submissions from Born This Way Foundation

Centerlink announces call for submissions for community youth to share their stories.

The following is quoted from Deborah Levine, Senior Director of Programs for Centerlink. Pride Community Center is a member of the Centerlink collection of LGBTQIA+ community centers.

Born This Way Foundation’s (BTWF) storytelling platform, Channel Kindness, is inviting young people, including trans- and gender-expansive young people, to submit essays for a special storytelling series. This series will bring together lived experience and research to highlight what truly supports the safety, health, and wellbeing of trans young people. Through personal stories, BTWF hopes to celebrate identity, pride, resilience, community, and the everyday bravery it takes to live authentically. They are also encouraging storytellers to include research, data, or resources that connect with their experiences. When personal stories and evidence join together, they can help inform future research, resources, and initiatives that support all young people.

Published stories will receive a $100 honorarium. Submissions are open now and will close on May 1 at 11:59 PM ET. Submissions require a full name, but selected authors can choose to publish their story anonymously.

To support youth in telling their story, BTWF is also letting folks know about The Channel Kindness Storytellers Club, a free writing workshop designed to empower young people aged 15-24 with the tools they need to tell their stories and express themselves through writing. This month, they are offering a special version of the program to highlight the Trans Visibility Stories: Visible and Proud series. This session of the Channel Kindness Storytellers Club is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 8pm ET. Folks can RSVP here.
