Through peer-led support group meetings Pride Community Center, Inc focuses on the holistic effect of stigma on the LGBTQ+ individual in our community.
Many of the ill-effects of health of our community are in-part due to the extra-personal climate we find ourselves in.
Determining strategies and interventions that peers have used to think differently about the stigma we as marginalized people have encountered and just discussing some of the things that happen to us help us to build community, find space, and promote healing and wholeness towards body, mind, and spirit.
Pride community center currently offers two peer-led support groups as part of this initiative:
Through participation and engagement with local partners, Pride Community Center, Inc strives to bring the voice of LGBTQ+ people int the discussion of resource creation and cultural competence. This is accomplished through education for community direct service partners about the realities of LGBTQ lives and through participation in coalitions in the Brazos Valley working in the social service arena.
Through partnership in current community events, in collaboration with LGBTQ+ group partners, and through the creation of unique social event opportunities, Pride Community Center raises the profile of LGBTQ+ people in the Brazos Valley. This is done through volunteership and participation in community events held by various community entities and through direct event and social engagement initiatives with collaboration of LGBTQ+ affirming groups, entities and identities.
Through direct activity and events and educational efforts to promote the whole health of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Brazos Valley. Pride Community Center is engaged in ascertaining the health needs, and addressing the disparities arising from resource allocation and community engagement as impacts the LGBTQ+ community of the Brazos Valley.
