What is the Point in Time Count?

The point in time count is a manual count of the number of homeless one day of the year across the country so as to get a realistic measure of the number of homeless people in our community.

Who does the Point in Time Count benefit?

The point in time count benefits all of us by determining need for the allocation of funds across the country and within the state to address homelessness in each of our communities. It benefits us all by doing the research to find the facts to create solutions locally for homeless people. By taking care of the least of us, all of us are made healthier. As they say, “a rising tide lifts all ships”.

Why should I as a queer person care about the Point in Time Count?

Taking care of our homeless population where we live accomplishes two initiatives of Pride Community Center, Inc. For our community enhancement initiative it puts LGBTQIA+ community members at the front line of the conversation on homelessness in our community. For our community engagement initiative it creates an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ people to demonstrate that they are good neighbors by giving back to the community and being active in its health and wellbeing.
For our homeless LGBTQIA+ community the PIT helps to address the needs of LGBTQIA+ homelessness.

How impacted is the LGBTQIA+ community by homelessness.

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming people are more likely to experience housting instability, housing discrimination and homelessness. LGBTQ_ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than non-LGBTQ youth.
